LEGO CITY Undercover (NSP, XCI) ROM + v1.0.3 Update

LEGO CITY Undercover is an action-adventure video game developed by TT Fusion and published by Nintendo for the Wii U in 2013. It was later re-released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows via Steam, and Xbox One by Warner Bros. Games in 2017. Based on the city-themed toy line by Lego, the narrative follows police officer Chase McCain as he returns to Lego City and pursues escaped crime boss Rex Fury. Gameplay features McCain both exploring the open world hub of Lego City and completing self-contained levels featuring puzzles and combat.

GAMEPLAY

An action-adventure game taking place in Lego City, the player controls an undercover cop named Chase McCain tasked with detaining the criminal Rex Fury. Chase goes on the hunt for criminals, with various moves at his disposal, such as swinging across poles and performing wall jumps. Lego City serves as an overworld that contains levels set in different environments split up into 20 districts. Each level has a set of linear objectives that must be completed to reach the end, which involve solving puzzles, building and breaking Lego bricks and platforming challenges.

Chase engages in combat with criminals who require button combinations to fight them. As the game progresses, Chase learns new abilities in the form of “disguises” that replicate occupations and personas; the abilities from the disguises are used in levels and exploring previously inaccessible content and areas in the overworld. For example, the miner disguise can smash through boulders with its pickaxe and grab a stick of dynamite out of the dynamite machine, and the criminal disguise can break through doors with a crowbar and crack safes open.

In the overworld, puzzles and collectibles are also hidden, such as timed challenges and car chases. The player is allowed to use any vehicle in the environment to reach their location, including boats, helicopters, and the vehicles of other citizens. Lego studs serve as the game’s currency and can be found in the environment or by solving puzzles. Studs can be used to purchase new vehicles that can be summoned and used at the player’s discretion. A rarer form of currency, Lego bricks, often require more difficult platforming or puzzle-solving to collect.

Lego bricks are used to complete “superbills”, which vary in use when completed, such as a structure to summon vehicles or stunt ramps. The Wii U GamePad is used to further progress with multiple features, including scanning for Lego brick locations, taking photo evidence, and listening to private conversations. When these features are not being used, the GamePad displays a map of the environment. The 2017 re-release of the game added local multiplayer.

PLOT

Police officer Chase McCain returns to Lego City after being exiled two years ago. He learns from Mayor Gleeson that Rex Fury, a notorious criminal whom Chase helped capture, has recently escaped from prison. Chase joins goofy newcomer Frank Honey, and police technician Ellie Phillips helps track down Rex. But his return is also important to Chase’s ex-girlfriend, Natalia Kowalski, who was forced into the witness protection program after falsely exposing herself as a witness in the Rex trial, and the city’s new police chief, Marion Danby. This is not welcome news, Who is Chase who got kicked out because of this mistake? After working on several small cases, Chase manages to gather clues that lead to an encounter with Rex at the Bluebell Mine but is defeated before he can arrest him.

Danby has Chase infiltrate a limousine company owned by crime boss Zhang Chuan. He works as a driver for billionaire Forrest Blackwell, receives recognition from Chan’s business partner Vinny Pappalardo, and steals a moon buggy for Chan. Natalia is captured by Chan while investigating Chan’s connection to his father’s disappearance. Chase saves her, which causes her to accept his cooperation in finding her father, but angers Danby when her Chan goes into hiding. After rescuing Natalia from a group of mysterious men and partially reconciling with her, Chase later discovers that Vinny himself is working for Lex.

Vinnie learns that she is not being paid for her work and is being ordered to steal more items for her buyers, so she instructs Chase to steal from Blackwell. After breaking into the mansion but being chased by Blackwell’s guards and unable to confiscate the valuables, Chase returns to Vinny’s ice cream shop, only to find it overrun by Rex’s thugs, and in retaliation, Vinny After learning that he had violated Rex’s orders, he was locked in a freezer. Chase manages to rescue Vinny from Lex’s thugs, and after interrogating the thug’s leader, he ends up finding out what Lex is doing in his place.

Chase successfully infiltrates Rex’s hideout and overhears Natalia’s father, lunar explorer Henrik Kowalski, being interrogated by Rex. He learns that Blackwell himself organized a crime wave and succeeded in kidnapping Natalia to force his father to carry out his plan. To save Kowalski, Chase calls Ellie to tell her what she learned, and she tells her that Blackwell has been in the news lately and promises that she has a plan to change Lego City forever. He goes to the Blackwell mansion and looks inside to find evidence of Blackwell’s crimes and finds Natalia.

Chase soon learns that Blackwell originally planned to build an apartment complex and shopping center in Bluebell, but was blocked by Lego City due to the presence of a rare and endangered squirrel in the park. Humiliated and angry at being denied this, Blackwell modifies the Blackwell Tower into a rocket that Chase discovers would burn Lego City if launched, and sends him to the moon. began a new plan to establish a colony. Chase orders Henry and several police officers to immediately set up a force field to prevent the rocket’s engines from destroying the city.

When Chase learns that Blackwell still has Natalia with him, he chases after him in the space shuttle. Blackwell destroys the shuttle, leaving Chase and Rex behind. Chase manages to defeat Rex in the final battle, after which Blackwell sends them both free-falling towards Earth. Chase parachutes towards Natalia’s prison in the rocket’s command module and deploys the module’s parachute to save Natalia. Back in town, Gleeson congratulates him on saving Lego City, and Danby offers Chase the honor of overseeing Rex’s arrest. But Chase refuses and insists Natalya is better.
