COCOON is a 2023 puzzle adventure game developed by Geometric Interactive and published by Annapurna Interactive. The player controls a beetle that can hop between worlds, solving puzzles to unravel the universe’s mysteries. The game was released on September 29, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Grasp the core concept of leaping amid these worlds, combining, manipulating, and reshaping them to unlock intricate solutions. Alien Machinery! Engage with alien landscapes and biomechanical remnants of an ancient civilization. Traverse is a tapestry of distinct biomes, from industrial edifices to colossal organic caverns, unraveling their interconnectedness.

Orb Abilities! Unleash latent powers within each orb, transforming them into unique tools for traversing other realms. Utilize these abilities to unveil hidden routes and objects, launch projectiles to activate switches, and more. Monstrous Sentinels! Formidable guardians safeguard every world, demanding your mettle in intense clashes. Each battle is a distinct challenge, compelling you to master fresh and gratifying mechanics.

GAMEPLAY

Cocoon is a third-person puzzle video game. The player controls a small insectoid creature navigating multiple desolate worlds. The player wakes up in a barren wasteland, soon after discovering a mysterious orb. Each orb contains one of the game’s worlds, allowing the player to hop between them, while also doubling as a unique ability in itself. The orb can also be used to power the various machinery found in these desolate worlds, such as lifts and platforms. As the player reaches the end of each orb, they are confronted by a boss fight they must complete by using a mechanic to impede the creature.

STORY

The Cocoon story is about adventuring across worlds to unravel a cosmic mystery at the heart of the narrative. Apart from this, not much else is known about the Cocoon story as of yet, which is important given it’s a puzzle game aiming for an air of mystery.

It could be most excitingly, you’ll be diving through worlds within worlds, defeating Guardians which will hopefully create a complex and intriguing narrative. Take this journey between worlds as an insect-like creature, solving puzzles and interacting with the environment to progress.

If you’ve played Limbo and Inside, then you’ll be familiar with the style, though this game does shake it up with a top-down perspective and a pretty unique mechanic, hopping into worlds contained within orbs and out of them. You can take these orbs around other worlds and move them to solve puzzles and potentially open up new pathways.

These orbs may reveal pathways, permit you to solve puzzles allow you to power devices, and assist you to access other worlds. By way of illustration, you safely keep away from a dangerous barrier by hopping out of a world, waiting for it to pass by, and then hopping back in. There are also boss fights too!
